This could not be easier! I fancied steak, but on a hot July evening I needed something chilled and served with salad rather than the traditional potato accompaniment. This is served with the Puy Lentil salad and fried mushrooms.
Serves 2
Serves 2
Ingredients
Large sirloin steak
1 tsp fennel seeds
2 small dried chillies
1-2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp cooking oil
Method
Heat a frying pan till nearly smoking hot. Meanwhile grind the fennel seeds and chillies using a mortar and pestle.
Add the oil to the pan and allow to heat. Add the steak and fry a minute or two on either side. Remove from the pan and allow to stand for 5 minutes. Now slice the meat into strips about 1cm wide. Toss in the ground spices and drizzle over the toasted sesame oil.
This should be served warm or cold (not hot) with salads.
Note that sesame oil cannot stand temperatures high enough to fry the meat, so should be added after frying as a flavouring instead.
